Violence as Constitutional Deadline Approaches in Nepal

Under the terms of a peace process, Nepal was supposed to have a draft constitution by 2008. But the Nepalese are still waiting and the deadline runs out this Sunday. Of particular concern in the constitutional debate is the recognition of ethnic identities under the nation's new federal structure. Since its formation in the 18th century, Nepal has been controlled by high-caste Brahmins and Chhetris. Taking to the streets of Kathmandu, members of marginalized communities say the high-caste leaders of the nation have yet to formulate any proposals to address their grievances. Al Jazeera's Subina Shrestha reports from Kathmandu.
