Thousands Protest Against Military Rule in Egypt

Thousands of people have protested in Egypt's Tahrir Square against continued army rule. This came after the government tried to guarantee the military's role in a constitutional proposal. An estimated 50,000 people turned out in scenes reminiscent of the bloody uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak in Feburary. Many of those who joined the rally said ensuring a role for Egypt's army will be a significate step backwards for democracy. The event was dominated by Egypt's most organized political group, the Muslim Brotherhood.
