The Sudans One Year Later: Divided We Fall?

South Sudan is celebrating its first year of independence from Sudan, but has the split brought progress or regression for the two countries? Border wars with the north, internal violence and a shutdown of oil production are serious economic and security challenges for South Sudan. Sudan, meanwhile, has lost 75 per cent of its oil revenues in the past year. As a result, its economy is struggling with soaring inflation and depreciation of the Sudanese pound. Al Jazeera's Inside Story takes a deeper look at the two Sudans one year later.
