Syrian Opposition Calls for Strong UN Action
April 11, 2012 from Euronews
With little immediate sign of an end to the violence in Syria, despite UN envoy Kofi Annan's best efforts to broker a ceasefire, exiled opposition groups have told euronews they fear the worst. ''The Syrian National Council's power is growing. That, in turn, has led to an increase in government violence. The number of victims has risen. There are more and more wounded, as well as prisoners. The Annan plan has not achieved what we would have liked. In fact, today, there is no shortage of initiatives, but these are having very little effect on the ground,'' Syrian National Council member Bassem Hatahet said.
