Plastic Bag Pollution Plagues Peshawar
July 19, 2012
Twelve-year-old Amir sells polythene bags in the roads of Peshawar and earns around 100 rupees a day. What he is unaware of is the fact that the use and sale of polythene bags is not only prohibited, but also hazardous to his health. Polythene bags are the main reason for environmental pollution in Peshawar, as they block drains and discharge poisonous gas when burned, which is a major cause of many chronic diseases, like cancer, asthma, and lung disorders. The government imposed a ban on the sale of polythene bags, but the ban was never implemented.
