Libya: Rebel Forces 'Enter' Stronghold of Sirte
September 15, 2011 from Euronews
Libyan forces loyal to the interim government have entered the Gaddafi stronghold of Sirte, according to the Transitional National Council. Its spokesman in Tripoli said the former rebels had made a "major advance" and were in the suburbs of the town. One report says they have entered from the west and the south. Earlier hundreds of pick-ups loaded with weapons had set off from Misrata heading for the desert town. Sirte is Gaddafi's birthplace and one of the last bastions still in the hands of forces loyal to the ousted leader.
