Yul Kwon:
Now, let's move to China. For the last month, we've been following a major scandal there involving one of China's most powerful politicians, Bo Xilai. It involves abuse of power and corruption, and last week, accusations of murder against his wife. But China's state-run broadcaster CCTV makes no mention of these salacious details. Instead it reports that the Communist Party is doing the right thing by punishing one of its top officials.

Reporter:
As Bo Xilai is suspected of being involved in serious discipline violations, the CPC Central Committee has suspended his membership of the CPC's top political body. This is in line with the CPC Constitution and the rules on investigation of CPC discipline.

Professor Zhang Xixian, CPC Central Party School:
As a party member of the CPC, I totally support the decision. This is the basic discipline a CPC member should abide by. The decision has demonstrated the CPC's fundamental ideals and the principle for ruling the party with strict discipline.

Reporter:
This decision has garnered wide support from all walks of life in the country. However, some overseas media have interpreted the case as an internal political fight within the CPC.

Professor Zhang Xixian, CPC Central Party School:
Bo Xilai has not formed a political faction of his own, or a so-called "political line" of his own. The decision is a proper resolution to the internal problems within the CPC. Since opening and reform, the pioneers of reform primarily emerged in the south. Bo Xilai has long been working in the north. It is inappropriate to label an official like Bo a reformist or a conservative. It is not fact.

Reporter:
In 2011, procuratorial authorities investigated nearly 19,000 major embezzlement and bribery cases involving more than 2,500 officials at the county level and above. This included 7 at the provincial and ministerial levels. Many are saying that Bo's case has once again demonstrated the CPC's determination to punish whoever violates standards of discipline and law. And this has boosted the Chinese people's confidence in the government and the ruling party.

Yul Kwon:
China has promised a full investigation into the Bo Xilai scandal.
