Caught Between Assad and al-Qaeda, the Lost Syrian Town

French photo-journalist Mani visits the "lost" town of Latamneh in Hama Governorate, where residents are turning to extreme measures to defend themselves. The town was the site of a horrific massacre that killed 65 people, many from the same family, in an attack by government forces that lasted just half an hour. Fearing further violence, and feeling abandoned by foreign governments, they are manufacturing improvised weapons including land mines and suicide belts. Some say there are ready to turn to al-Qaeda for help.
