Medical teams say three of the passengers suffered severe injuries. Authorities claim the attack was an act of terrorism. Israeli police have arrested one man and are on the hunt for another. The blast was not a suicide attack, security services say a sports bag was left on the bus, which exploded. The last time a bomb hit the heart of Israel's commercial capital was in June 2006, when a Palestinian suicide bomber killed 11 people at a sandwich stand. Hamas voiced support for the bomb attack, but fell short of claiming responsibility. The blast may well derail ceasefire efforts and scupper US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's visit to the region. </media:text>

A bomb blast aboard a bus in Tel Aviv injured dozens of Israelis, as the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip continues.

Reporter, Female #1
After her rockets succeeded in reaching Tel Aviv and other Israeli colonies, the Palestinian resistance entered the heart of Tel Aviv to flip the balance once again. In the first such operation since 2006, the Palestinian resistance carried out an operation near the Israeli ministry of war, targeting an Israeli bus on King David Street and injuring at least 15 people. Three are in a severe condition. According to the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad, al-Quds Brigades, it was not a martyrdom operation.

Reporter, Female #1
On the basis of preliminary information, Israeli sources suggested that a woman might have placed an explosive device inside the bus before exiting. The public broadcasting station reported a passenger saying he saw a man throwing a bag or a package inside the bus before fleeing. Meanwhile, it was reported a suspect was detained near the stock market building in Tel Aviv with the enemy's police indicating it received a notice from the security agency early this week warning of a possible bombing. As a spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the explosion as a terrorist attack, the Hamas movement blessed the operation.

Guest, Male #2 (Sami Abu Zuhri, Hamas Spokesman)
The Hamas movement blesses this martyrdom operation in Tel al-Rabi, and confirms that it is a natural response to the targeting and killing of the Dalu family and the other Palestinian children, women, and civilians.

Guest, Male #3
God willing, there will be 10 more operations.

Reporter, Female #1
The Gazan street, besieged by air and land, expressed its joy over this operation by offering sweets and firing celebratory shots in the air. However, the aerial bombardment of the Strip overshadowed this atmosphere of joy. At least 15 Palestinians were martyred, including children and women, in the ongoing Israeli strikes on the Strip.

Reporter, Female #1
The enemy launched a strike on Burj Na'emeh in the center of the city, known as the media complex, which includes the Agence-France Presse office, killing one child and another person. According to a spokesman for the occupation army, Hamas has an important military intelligence operations room in the center that was targeted.

Reporter, Female #1
Israeli warplanes also shelled the Abu Khadra government complex with at least five missiles, completely destroying it and cutting off power for many areas in the city. The Al Jazeera office, located near the complex, was significantly damaged due to the heavy shelling. This, as the enemy's army called on journalists in Gaza to stay away from terrorists and Hamas' infrastructures. The Palestinian response did not stop with the bus bombing in Tel Aviv as the resistance launched 92 rockets toward Israel. According to a spokeswoman for the occupation's army, 42 fell in Israel, and the Iron Dome repelled 20 rockets.

Egypt's Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr announced in a joint press conference with his American counterpart a ceasefire in Gaza will start at 9 pm Cairo time. He indicated that Egypt exerted great efforts and made many contacts with all concerned parties in Palestine and Israel.

Reporter, Female #2
Eight days after the Israeli aggression on Gaza began, a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was announced from Cairo. It will start at 9 pm Cairo time. The announcement was made during a joint press conference by Egypt's Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr and his American counterpart Hillary Clinton. The Egyptian foreign minister announced that Egypt exerted great efforts, and made many contacts with all concerned parties in Palestine and Israel, and the US.

Reporter, Female #2
The efforts led to an agreement to end the gunfire, to restore the calm, and stop the ongoing bloodshed in Gaza. During this marathon day of meetings, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon visited Cairo to continue talks on stopping the Israeli aggression on Gaza. Following his meeting with Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, he said many more issues need to be resolved before a truce can be reached between Israel and armed groups in Gaza. The UN secretary-general also met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, saying the time has come for diplomacy and to end the violence, during a press conference with President Abbas.

Presenter, Female #2
For his part, the Palestinian president confirmed he is in contact with all factions in Gaza and the West Bank, and Cairo to contain the situation and reach a truce. Also from Cairo, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton discussed with the Egyptian president the outcome of her talks with the disputing parties. Clinton also met with the Palestinian president amid popular anger outside the headquarters of the Palestinian presidency.

Presenter, Female #2
Palestinian youth protested against Clinton's visit to Ramallah to condemn the United States for standing on the side of Israel. Protestors held photos of Palestinian children martyred in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, as other youth tried to advance towards President Abbas' office. However, a large number of Palestinian police officers prevented them from getting close to the headquarters.</media:text>

Thirty-four people were killed today in Gaza as Israeli air raids continued. Rockets fired from the Strip towards Israel also continued. Palestinian factions Fatah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad said they agreed to unite against the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and to end the division. The announcement was made during a festival held at al-Manara Square in the city of Ramallah.

For the sixth consecutive day, Israeli forces continued their violent and destructive shelling of different parts of the Gaza Strip. The Israeli raids targeted the town of Tal al-Hawa, south of the Strip, and the town of al-Karara, east of Khan Yunis, and Deir al-Balah in the center of the Strip.

Reporter, Male #2
Among today's fallen martyrs is a leader of a missile unit affiliated with al-Quds Brigade, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement. Israeli fighter jets conducted raids on Khan Yunis, leading to the martyrdom of a number of people, including two children. In the area of Deir al-Balah, the Israeli enemy executed a number of raids and targeted a civilian car that led its passengers to arrive to the hospital in pieces.

Reporter, Male #2
The warplanes waged an attack on an agricultural field in the area of al-Tarr al-Gharby. Three farmers were martyred. An elderly woman was martyred in a raid near her home in the city of Beit Hanoun. Israeli planes carried out over 20 raids that targeted the tunnels' area in Rafah; no injuries were reported. The brutal attack also reached a residential home in Hay al-Zaytoun, which led to the killing of four civilians, including two women and a child.

Israeli planes pounded Sahat al-Saray with three missiles that martyred a baby girl. A woman and an elderly man were mildly injured, but their neighboring homes were significantly destroyed. This, as Israeli battleships bombed the beach of Gaza City with shells and the air force conducted a raid on the marine police station in Deir al-Balah. As for the western Negev, it was also subjected to rocket shelling; all rockets fell on vacant land. Planes renewed raids on the areas of al-Yarmouk and al-Khaiyala, west of Gaza, and al-Jidar, which belongs to al-Qassam, north of the Strip. On the Israeli side, emergency sirens sounded today in Tel Aviv and Beir al-Sabea. The Israeli army said that what is known as the Iron Dome intercepted four rockets fired from the Gaza Strip towards Tel Aviv. Meanwhile, the Quds Brigades announced that the number of rockets it fired since the beginning of the aggression until now has exceeded 500. During an emergency meeting held by the Palestinian leadership, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that Israel has a plan that is already in the works. He said he identified this plan at the beginning of Israel's policy of assassinations, and it aims to strike at the Gaza Strip. He spoke at length about the efforts of the Palestinian leadership attempting to stop what is happening in the Gaza Strip. He stressed that the actions of the Egyptian president and prime minister were completed in coordination with the Palestinian leadership.

On the ground, the BBC's correspondent in Jerusalem said Israeli police confirmed that a rocket launched from the Gaza Strip fell south of the city. Israeli radio said two rockets fell in an open area near Tel Aviv, and no damage was reported. This comes as al-Qassam Brigades said it downed an Israeli warplane with a surface-to-air missile. The Brigades had not previously announced ownership of that type of missile. The Israeli raids on the Strip were heavily renewed today, raising the death toll to 21 people.

The Israeli air raids on the Gaza Strip are continuing for the third consecutive day, and with it, the number of deaths and injuries is rising. The wave of escalation in Gaza is continuing but was interrupted during the visit of Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Kandil, who headed a ministerial delegation to the Gaza Strip. The visit is said to be in solidarity with the residents of the Strip. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he agreed to stop the air strikes and raids during this visit if the Palestinian side commits to hold its fire.

In its latest strike, the Israeli Air Force carried out over 20 air raids on different areas of the Gaza Strip on Friday morning, reaching the security headquarters of the Hamas government in Gaza that include the headquarters of the Palestinian Interior Ministry.

Palestinian medical sources said that six children, a woman, and two elderly men are among the injured, in addition to the over 250 people wounded in the more than 120 Israeli raids on the Gaza Strip. Palestinian shells and rockets resulted in deaths and injuries on the Israeli side as well.

In consecutive statements, several Palestinian factions announced the shelling of different Israeli targets with hundreds of different types of rockets. According to their statements, some of them reached Tel Aviv. Hayyan Yaqoob, BBC.</media:text>

<media:text>On Day 3 of Operation Pillar of Defense, IBA reports that rockets continued to pound deep within Israel. Over 500 missiles have been launched into the country since Wednesday. Hamas fired its first missile at Jerusalem, and air raid sirens were sounded there for the first time since the Gulf War 20 years ago. Rockets were also launched at the central city of Tel Aviv for the first time since the 1991 regional conflict. Over 90 rockets have hit southern Israel cities bordering Gaza, including Ashdod, Ashkelon, and Beersheba, causing significant damage but no casualties. The Iron Dome intercepted about 55 of the rockets. Israeli air strikes hit the Hamas Interior Ministry building and the house of a Hamas commander for southern Gaza.

Armored personnel tanks were seen heading to the border areas, as IDF units prepared for a possible invasion as part of Operation Pillar of Defense, after Defense Minister Ehud Barak issued a decision to call up 30,000 reservists for a possible extended ground incursion into Gaza. IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz approved 16,000 call-ups.</media:text>

Our Al Jazeera correspondent in Gaza said a rocket launched from the Gaza Strip caused an explosion in Tel Aviv. Earlier, the Israeli army said a rocket fell on Rishon Lezion, a southern suburb of Tel Aviv. This is the first time rockets launched from Gaza hit a Tel Aviv suburb. Three Israeli soldiers were injured after a shell fell in the western Negev. Israeli police confirmed that three people were killed in the southern town of Kiryat Malakhi due to rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip.

Presenter, Male #1
This comes as the number of martyrs rose to 15 due to Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip. A child and an elderly person were killed today after sustaining injuries caused by two air strikes on the southern city of Khan Younis, and on the northern town of Beit Lahiya. This afternoon, masses of Gaza's residents participated in the funeral of Ahmed al-Jaabari, the chief of staff of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam brigades, the military wing of the Hamas movement. He was assassinated in the first few Israeli air strikes on Wednesday.

Reporter, Female #1
The ongoing Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip did not prevent the Palestinians from participating in the funeral procession for Ahmed al-Jaabari, the chief of staff of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam brigades, the military wing of the Hamas movement. He was martyred yesterday with his companion in an Israeli strike that targeted his car.

Reporter, Female #1
The chants of the mourners centered on supporting the resistance, and demanded a strong response against the Israeli aggressions. Al-Jaabari's assassination ignited Palestinian anger against Israel that has started a wide-scale military campaign and escalated the situation on the ground in the Gaza Strip. However, it placed the Palestinian factions on the same front of the confrontation.

Reporter, Female #1
The Palestinian factions' response to the Israeli army's operations in the strip was quick. The resistance launched Grad missiles and other locally-produced missiles on Israeli targets. The resistance vowed more missiles will be launched until Israel stops its operations against the Strip. The political position of the Palestinian factions was support for and confirmation of national consensus over the actions of the resistance.

Guest, Male #2
The factions held a meeting late last night, and agreed on a number of issues, including forming a shared operations room to coordinate their work on the ground, and politically, and on all other levels.

Guest, Male #3
Through our resistance, our patience and our determination, we will settle this war and this combat with the Israeli occupation in the coming days. The Qassam Brigades are more resolved and more determined than ever to move forward on al-Jaabari's path.

Reporter, Female #2
The atmosphere of a possible escalating war in the cities of the Strip reminded Palestinians in Gaza of their memories of previous Israeli wars. However, observers believe the developments in the next few days will depend on Israel's continued aggression, and the extent of the Palestinian factions' response deep into Israel. These conditions mean the citizens in Gaza will stay on edge as they wait and see what happens, despite their commitment to resist. Hiba Akila, Al Jazeera, from the city of Gaza.</media:text>

<media:text>Mitt Romney, the presumed Republican candidate for the US presidency, has made his first overseas trip of the 2012 election season. It should have been an easy opportunity to burnish his foreign policy credentials, but Romney's trip has been anything but error-free. The former Massachusetts governor's first stop was in the UK, where he managed to earn the ire of the iconic city's mayor after Romney said it may not be prepared to host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Then in Israel, another long-time US ally, Romney said that Tel Aviv's economy was stronger than neighboring Palestine's because of Israel's "culture." His failure to refer to the Israeli occupation of Palestine followed the candidate all the way to Poland, where at least one journalist asked him about his earlier comments in the Middle East -- and a Romney aide responded in less than polite terms.</media:text>

A Palestinian was martyred and two others were wounded by the gunfire of the Israeli occupation army at an entrance gate into occupied Jerusalem. Palestinian sources said the wounded were transported to Ramallah Hospital. Meanwhile, the occupation's authority refused to hand over the martyr's body. A witness clarified that the military checkpoint at Jerusalem's eastern entrance opened fire at the car the victims were riding in.

American Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, expressed his support for what he considered to be Israeli concerns over the Iranian nuclear program. During his visit to the occupied Palestinian territories, Romney assured his support for Tel Aviv, declaring Jerusalem as the capital of the Israeli entity.

Reporter, Female #2
It seems the American presidential race has moved its base from its home country to the Israeli occupation entity, turning it into a platform to win the support of American Jews and Israel's backers in the United States, and gather the endorsement of the occupation entity's leaders. It started earlier this week with Obama, who put on a show in his Oval Office in the White House by signing the enhanced security cooperation act with the Zionist entity. During the ceremony, Obama was surrounded by representatives of the Zionist lobby, AIPAC, and a number of congressmen, confirming Washington's solid support for the entity.

Reporter, Female #2
As for his Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, who worries about lagging behind his Democratic rival, he personally went to occupied Palestine to portray himself as a better friend to the Zionist lobby than President Obama. Romney's visit had a busy schedule that included visits with the entity's leaders, speeches, a visit to the Wailing Wall among crowds of Israelis, and making promises and statements that appeal to Israelis.

Guest, Male #1 (Mitt Romney, Republican Presidential Candidate)
We are very concerned about the development of the Iranian nuclear issue. We feel that it is unacceptable for Iran to become a nuclear state because it poses a threat to Israel and the world.

Reporter, Female #2
Romney used Jerusalem to target the Israeli mindset and its historic ambitions in hopes of receiving more votes, so he announced that this holy city is the capital of the Israeli entity.

Reporter, Female #2
The Palestinian leadership objected to the statement, but its weak objections remained mere lip service. And while chief negotiator Saeb Erekat denounced describing occupied Jerusalem in such a manner, as well as the American election campaign's auctions at the expense of the Palestinian people, Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority Salam Fayyad received the American presidential candidate. He held a meeting with Romney that was described as semi-secret, and its details were not revealed. No meeting was held with the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas. Fayyad sought to undermine the importance of not arranging a meeting between Abbas and Romney, suggesting there was a simple scheduling conflict.

Guest, Male #2 (Salam Fayyad, Palestinian Authority Prime Minister)
I had previously met with Mr. Romney twice, and when I meet with him, I do not meet with him on a personal basis. I meet with him as prime minister of the Palestinian Authority, that is headed by President Mahmoud Abbas.

Reporter, Female #2
Romney concluded his visit to the occupied territories with a fundraiser. Most of the attendees were American Jews living in the Israeli entity. He is hoping that his statements will have an impact that would allow him to win the American presidential seat.</media:text>

An official Israeli report criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over his dealing of the attack on the Freedom Flotilla in 2010. The report, released by the Israeli state's comptroller, said the decision making under the leadership and responsibility of Netanyahu was marred by significant shortcomings. Nine Turks were killed in the attack launched by the Israeli forces on the Freedom Flotilla that was attempting to break the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip.

Reporter, Male #1
The Israeli prime minister is in the crossfire over by his handling of the Freedom Flotilla. The flotilla was headed toward the Gaza Strip in the middle of 2010, in an attempt to break Israel's suffocating siege on the strip. Israeli commandos attacked the flotilla, and on board its largest ship, the Turkish Mavi Marmara, nine Turkish activists were killed. The report by the Israeli state's comptroller says that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demonstrated flawed decision making. For instance, Netanyahu did not hold an official meeting with the responsible ministers; instead, he only held one on one meetings with the ministers of defense and foreign affairs, without documenting or even recording these meetings. According to the report, Netanyahu did not order complete efforts for a comprehensive policy to deal with the issue. The report also indicated that Netanyahu finally met with his mini-cabinet to discuss the issue, but the meeting took place too late and without any preparations, shortly before the arrival of the flotilla.

Guest, Male #2 (Mark Regev, Netanyahu spokesman)
Israel's democratic process includes institutional mechanisms for independent oversight and we thank the State Comptroller for his work. However, we should remember that Israel exercised its legitimate right to self-defense in the case of the Freedom Flotilla to prevent weapons from being delivered to the terrorists in Gaza. The United Nations has said that our interception of the flotilla was legitimate.

Reporter, Male #1
The criticisms of the Israeli state's comptroller essentially focused on the Israeli government's decision-making. But the report does not extend to the government's position on the Freedom Flotilla, nor does it criticize the way Israeli forces dealt with the activists on the flotilla. Turkish-Israeli relations witnessed a major setback after the incident, on account of which the Israeli ambassador was expelled from Turkey. Ankara is still demanding Tel Aviv to officially apologize and compensate the families of the victims.</media:text>

<media:text>The new infiltrators' law has gone into effect, with illegal migrants facing up to three years of detention without trial. Previously, illegal migrants could only be detained for up to ten days, and were released if not found to be a security threat. The law also includes up to 15 years of imprisonment for an Israeli who assists an infiltrator.

Demographic changes in south Tel Aviv, where most of the 60,000 African migrants live and where most migrants released from detention settle, have led to clashes between the would-be immigrants and the Israeli community, which accuse the newcomers for rising property-related crimes and assault and rape cases in the area.</media:text>

The Palestinian Authority has received the remains of 91 Palestinian martyrs, held by Israel for years in a cemetery in the Jordan Valley.

The remains were transferred from the Jordan Valley to Ramallah and Gaza. The remains of 12 martyrs arrived to Gaza amid a public ceremony attended by representatives of the various factions.

The Nasser al-Bouze family went into a state of shock in the city of Nablus. Nasser, who was an active member of the Fatah movement and one of the founders of the Black Panthers group during the first Intifada, vanished in 1989. Over the past 23 years, Israel has denied it was holding him, but today, Israel is supposed to return his remains to his family.

Guest, Male #2
When we asked the Palestinian Authority and Israel about him, they said they don't have him. So where is he? He is not a needle that can be easily lost. This has been a problem for us. We have put our trust in God, all praise to him, and hoped that he was still alive.

Reporter, Female #2
The family has lived with disappointments, and the hope that their years of waiting could come one day come to an end.

Guest, Male #3
Our family has made a definite decision, which is to request a DNA test to make sure that he is our brother. Now, after 23 years, they want to give us a pile of remains. Whose remain are these?

Reporter, Female #2
In the early hours of the morning, the Palestinian Authority received the remains of 91 Palestinian martyrs, including 12 from the Gaza Strip. For years, the remains were nothing but a number in a mass grave inside Israel. Today, they are reclaiming their identities. And on their tombs, a story of life, revolution, and martyrdom will be written.

Reporter, Female #2
The oldest remains belong to seven martyrs who carried out the Savoy Hotel Operation in Tel Aviv in 1975. However, they don't have any relatives in Palestine to claim their bodies. They will be buried, along with 10 other martyrs, in a memorial cemetery in Ramallah. The Palestinian Authority hopes to receive another wave of martyrs in a few weeks.

Guest, Male #4 (Hussein al-Sheikh, Palestinian Authority Minister of Civil Affairs)
The second phase will be more complicated because it requires medical and technical procedures. At the beginning of the 1967 occupation, Israel committed immoral acts in the way it was burying martyrs of the Palestinian revolution. It was a mass random burial, and Israel did not mark the bodies by name, or by any other means.

Reporter, Female #2
The other remains belong to martyrs who carried out operations inside Israel during al-Aqsa Intifada, or the Second Intifada. This is the first such deal of this magnitude between the Palestinian Authority and Israel. Though it came very late, the martyrs get to reclaim their identity today. They have fallen for the sake of their nation, and they are finally being honored, publicly and officially.</media:text>

Hundreds of Israelis demonstrated in central Tel Aviv against the increasing numbers of illegal African immigrants in the country, and called for deporting them immediately. These protests came several days after the Interior Minister Eli Yishai called for arresting all African immigrants and deporting them from Israel. Israeli sources estimate there are 60,000 Africans in Israel from various countries.

Reporter, Male #1
Hundreds of Israelis took to the streets to support the call put forth by Interior Minister Eli Yishai to arrest and deport Africans living illegally in Israel. The scene was not free of aggression against Africans and local shops that employ them. The recent crimes and rapes committed by Africans instigated the Israelis to come out in protest. However, Yishai did not reveal the real reason behind his call from the podium of Knesset.

Guest, Male #2 (Eli Yishai, Israeli Interior Minister)
We are not racists, we will solve the problem of refugees, but we also want to protect the Jewish majority. Otherwise, within a few years, we will find ourselves fighting another independence war.

Reporter, Male #1
In every corner of Tel Aviv, groups of African immigrants will be found. According to official figures, 60,000 Africans are living in Israel. Half of them are from Eritrea, 15,000 from Sudan, and the rest are from other African countries. Brown-skinned people are viewed by Israelis as an uncivilized sight that should be removed.

Guest, Male #3
Israelis targeting us because we are black, and we're Africans. Not for other reasons.

Guest, Male #4
We came here in search of freedom and democracy. Then when we came here we encounter the same problems from Israelis. But not all Israelis hate Africans.

Reporter, Male #1
Israeli organizations monitoring Africans' affairs, especially those seeking political asylum, say that deporting them would risk their lives. And such behavior is inappropriate for a people that suffered persecution from the Nazis.

Guest, Female #2 (Sigal Rozen, African Refugees Advocacy Center)
Israel is a Jewish state established by refugees, for refugees. It cannot treat today's refugees this way.

Reporter, Male #1
The prosecution of Africans begins at the border with Egypt. Hundreds of them are arrested daily, while hundreds of others manage to arrive at Israeli cities. Along these borders, Israel is setting up a security fence that will soon cut off the way for immigrants from the African continent. Africans come to Israel in search of a new life and a safe refuge. But they are colliding with a society that hosts hatred and racism against strangers. This makes their life full of expulsion, arrests, and deportation, as well as violence. President Shimon Peres spoke to AIPAC just before Obama's address. Peres said that a nuclear Iran would be a menace, not just to Israel's security, but to the world at large.

Guest, Male #2 (Shimon Peres, Israeli President)
Iran is an evil, cruel, morally corrupt regime. It is based on destruction. It is an affront to human dignity. Iran is the center, the sponsor, the financier, of world terror. Iran is a danger to the entire world. Israel experienced the horror of war. It does not seek it. Peace is always our first option, but if we are forced to fight, trust me, we shall prevail.

Presenter, Male #1
Returning to the Obama-Netanyahu summit, I'm joined now from our Tel Aviv studio by Israel affairs expert and former ambassador Yoram Ettinger. Ambassador Ettinger, good evening.

Guest, Male #3 (Ambassador Yoram Ettinger, Expert on US-Israel Affairs)
Good evening to you.

Presenter, Male #1
The summit between President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu gets underway in about an hour's time. What do you expect will be the tone and the content of that meeting?

Guest, Male #3
Well, there's no doubt that the tone of this meeting as far as Obama is concerned will be very friendly, very warm, he would initiate opportunities. He needs it because his numbers are very low, he cannot reach 50 percent yet, and he needs that in order to impress friends of Israel that he deserves, supposedly, their vote. However, the challenge for Netanyahu will be to convince the president that the threat of a nuclear Iran is not primarily to Israel, it's primarily to the US, and therefore the president has to preempt after the failure of sanctions and the failure of diplomacy during the last eight years with Iran and during the last 40 years with North Korea.

Presenter, Male #1
Ambassador Ettinger, is Israel expecting Washington to spell out what the US sees as its own red lines beyond which the military option would replace the diplomatic option?

Guest, Male #3
Well, it seems to me that Netanyahu should study the precedent of prime minister begging, where he did not want to fully coordinate with the US, because full coordination means subordination of Israel's national security, not only to the whims of an American president, but to electoral considerations. Which are very minimal compared to the survival consideration of the state of Israel. US and Israel should remain as strategic allies and therefore allow Israel to determine its own response to lethal threats.

Presenter, Male #1
Ambassador Ettinger, you were stationed in the United States for many years. You're a keen observer of the American-US relationship. It was certainly a very pro-Israel speech Obama gave yesterday. Do you believe the president, though, when he says the US will not allow Iran to go nuclear?

Guest, Male #3
Well, I think the question is not to believe, but to look at the facts rather than at the rhetoric. The president stood at the same podium in 2008, and said specifically, literally, that he, Mr. Obama, supports united, indivisible Jerusalem under Israel's sovereignty. What does that mean, as far as his current policy, where he is the first president ever to force Israel, coerce Israel into a total freeze of construction in eastern Jerusalem as a precondition for any negotiation with the Palestinians? We have seen the president basically radicalizing Mahmoud Abbas's position by posing to Israel very radical demands, and therefore today we have an impasse between Israel and the Palestinians.</media:text>

Joining us now from our Tel Aviv studio to discuss regional development is Middle East expert Dr. Ra'anan Gissin. Good evening, Dr. Gissin.

Guest, Male #3 (Dr. Ra'anan Gissin, Middle East Analyst)
Good evening, Erin. It's good to be back.

Presenter, Female #1
Nice to have you with us. Now, Ra'anan, as you know, the Prime Minister Netanyahu set off on his North American diplomatic mission this morning. What needs to be accomplished for this trip to be considered a success?

Guest, Male #3
I think the most important thing right now, it seems, on the face of it, would be a joint, very clear and unequivocal statement that if and when sanctions fail, the other options which are on the table will be exercised. Better, I would say, and hopefully that will be reflected in the statement, not by Israel alone, but with Israel, the United States leading, and perhaps the whole coalition of countries which are facing the Iranian threat. Because, mind you, you know, the real problem originally, when the Iranian issue arose, that Israel is not alone here, and I think one of the things that we have to come out of this meeting, or that would be the desired outcome of the meeting for the Netanyahu delegation, is to come out with a clear understanding, where the president unequivocally says to the world, and says to the Iranians, you have to see, if you don't comply with the sanctions, then we will exercise the other options, and the United States will be with Israel. Israel is not alone in this game. This game is Iran versus the world, not just Iran versus Israel.

Presenter, Female #1
We know that the leaders are going to try to repair a united front for the TV cameras. But if there is trouble developing behind the scenes, how would we know that?

Guest, Male #3
Well, there's not doubt that, I would say, first of all, there is more understandings than there are problems. Because over the years, I would say maybe the past five years, the United States teams and Israeli teams have been working together on all, I would say, covering the whole gamut of contingency plans if and when there will be a need for some sort of joint action. And I'm saying there is much more cooperation than there is misunderstanding or divisions. The divisions and the differences lie when two main sound bites, the deadline and the Red Line, beyond which you know it is clear that this is the point of no return, that Iran is going to go nuclear, and there is the need to exercise other options. And what is the deadline? When should that be exercised? I think these are the two issues that the teams are trying to work out, and I think it will be reflected in the statement that will be issued whether there is an understanding of that. One thing is clear: the message to Iran coming out of this joint meeting and the joint statement should be unequivocally clear, that there are sanctions, but behind those sanctions, there's also a loaded gun. If the sanctions don't work, the gun will be operated.</media:text>

After the occupation deployed a unit of the Golani Brigade in Hebron's Old City, the residents' life turned into a nightmare, caused by the repressive and arbitrary measures carried out by members of the unit.

Reporter, Male #1
This video, filmed by an international peace activist, shows soldiers from a Golani Brigade unit detaining children heading to Qurtuba School in Hebron's Tel Rumeida. Another video shows soldiers from the same unit surrounding a residential house in Hebron's Old City.

Guest, Female #2 (Aida Tah, Resident)
The way they look at us scares us. I swear, my child urinated on himself out of fear.

Reporter, Male #1
After this unit was deployed to the city eight months ago, the occupation and its settlers escalated their aggression against residents here. Most notable are the brutal raids of homes late at night.

Guest, Male #2 (Fahmi Nasser ad-Din, Resident)
The other day they broke down the door, you can see it. They broke the locks. They came in violently and put the young men aside and humiliated and beat them. It is very tense here.

Reporter, Male #1
These measures inflict a blow to the efforts of governmental and civil organizations that managed to restore life to the Old City, even if only relatively. The occupation authority's goal is to clear the town of its residents, and its attempts to do so is seen through its deployment of this infantry unit that repeatedly assaults the residents, and even local and international peace activists.

Guest, Male #3 (Ra'ed Abu Arhilah, Beit Salam)
The Golani Brigade came 21 days ago, and since then we've been suffering from this unit in the city of Hebron. It seems they were given the power to assault and violate women and children. I also have a video that shows how many entered some homes in the Old City and assaulted children and women at three in the morning.

Guest, Female #3 (Fathiyah Abu Rahila, Resident)
They're always raiding our homes and breaking down our doors. They don't even knock or anything. They're stationed on rooftops at night. They open our doors because we can't close them, and still, they throw garbage at our homes and look inside our apartments.

Reporter, Male #1
Official sources are concerned about these systematic attacks, and have called on international organizations to put pressure on the Tel Aviv government to withdraw this unit, which holds the elite of the ultra-extremists. An army equipped with various kinds of weapons is facing unarmed citizens who only have patience and perseverance to stay on their land. Duya'a Junaidi, Palestine TV, Hebron.</media:text>

The nationwide general strike may now be behind us, but commuters and hospital patients are feeling the sting from yet another set of sanctions. Joining us now with the details from our Tel Aviv studio is IBA's Erielle Reshef.

Reporter, Female #2 (Erielle Reshef, IBA Reporter)
Good evening, Erin. Well, nurses at Soroka Hospital in Beersheba and Barzai Medical Center in Ashkelon walked off the job today in protest of what they see as unbearable work conditions. They are now operating on an emergency schedule only, and that has caused a shortage of unparalleled proportions. The hallways at the hospitals are filled with patients seeking care, and conditions are rapidly deteriorating. The nurses say that the overcrowding at both hospitals has topped a staggering 180 percent, and that patients must wait hours for essential treatment. They claim that every department is at least five nurses short, and are now demanding that wards be added to cope with the influx. The nurses claim that they are unable to properly serve their patients under the current circumstances, including some with life-threatening illnesses. They say that they are simply fed up with the reoccurring problem, and vow to maintain their work actions until their demands are met.

Reporter, Female #2
And now, Erin, let's turn to the Israel railways dispute. Employees have officially returned to work today, but train operations were delayed at the Herzliya terminal after an unconnected suicide attempt. The workers' union staged sanctions yesterday in defiance of a court order that required them to go back to work. In protest, Gila Edri, the chairman of the workers' committee, showed up hours late to the National Labor Court hearing on the issue. This prompted the court to hold union leaders in contempt, and to slap them with heavy fines. The Labor Court also renewed its injunction against the wildcat strike, but not before the work stoppage wreaked havoc on the country's rail system. The Israel Railways Union is protesting management's decision to privatize services in the industry. But in an apparent punitive measure for the union's behavior, the Finance Ministry is now saying that it will consider outsourcing even more of the railway's services. Minister of Transportation Yisrael Katz and Histadrut chairman Ofer Eini are slated to hold talks tomorrow to discuss the grievances. But for their part, the workers' union says that it will resume the strike if its complaints aren't adequately addressed.

Reporter, Female #2
And one more note, Erin. 400 of the nation's teachers working on partial contracts will now launch their own strike this evening. They're demanding additional pay and benefits. So just days after that crippling strike, it looks like there are still plenty of unresolved work disputes.</media:text>

Net won by a comfortable three-to-one margin, winning 75 percent of the vote against his right-wing rival, Moshe Feiglin. The result followed a tense day of voting and a relatively disappointing turnout. Only about 50 percent of the 125,000 registered party members actually showed up to cast their ballots, although this was more than the last time the primary was held. Declaring a victory at a celebration in Tel Aviv, Netanyahu said that the real Likud had won. Netanyahu also told the general elections are still a ways off and there were challenges to overcome in the meantime. This was the fifth time that Netanyahu has won a Likud leadership contest</media:text>

The Israeli army says these are yearly exercises meant to train civil defense teams to keep up with Israel's response to any attacks, with both traditional and non-traditional weapons. And even though these exercises are customary, observers of Israeli army affairs linked the maneuvers to the growing internal speculations about the possibility of directing a preventative strike against Iranian nuclear sites. According to leaks by the Israeli media, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to convince leaders of his government to allow a military strike against the Iranian nuclear program, under the pretext that it plans to produce nuclear weapons. A media report indicates that Netanyahu is working with Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak to gain the support of skeptic members of his government who oppose attacking Iranian nuclear sites. Successive developments revealed that Israel will be ready to strike if it increases its military maneuvers across different parts of the country and maintains its missiles in a state of complete alert. This was clear yesterday when Israel test-fired a self-propelled ballistic Jericho missile that has a 6,000 kilometer range and is capable of holding nuclear warheads. And not only did Israel make preparations within its borders, it also used its military warplanes for a drill with Italian warplanes over the island of Sardinia last week, as confirmed by Israeli military leaders. One Israeli pilot said the training provided Israeli military airplanes a simulation of long-range missions. Meanwhile, a poll conduced by Ha'aretz newspaper revealed that 41 percent of Israelis support an Israeli military strike against Iranian nuclear facilities, while 39 percent oppose the strike. Fifty-two percent of Israelis said they are relying on Netanyahu to solve the Iranian issue while 37 percent said the opposite. </media:text>

The Israeli security cabinet unanimously approved a deal to swap prisoners with Egypt.
This news comes after Cairo reached a final agreement with Washington and Tel Aviv to exchange Israeli spy Ilan Grapel for 25 Egyptian prisoners held by Tel Aviv, including three children. Israeli sources said the deal will be completed next Thursday. Grapel was accused of conducting intelligence surveillance for a foreign state as well as inciting protestors to vandalize public property and government institutions. Meanwhile, the Egyptian public welcomed the deal and expressed joy while also urging caution in dealing with the Israeli side.

For the second time in less than ten days, the Egyptian negotiator was able to complete a prisoner swap deal with the Israelis. Egypt agreed to swap 25 Egyptian prisoners, including three children, for Israeli spy Ilan Grapel, who was arrested by security agencies during the January 25 incidents.

Guest, Male #4
The deal is a victory for the Egyptians. People had expressed doubt about this deal, saying that Egypt's position was weak. However, this deal shows that we still have the leadership.

Guest, Male #5
We don't care about this Israeli spy. What is important is freeing the Egyptian prisoners held by Israel.

Reporter, Male #2
The Egyptian spy, who carried out surveillance on behalf of the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, traveled to several areas in Egypt to stir internal strife and conflict among the Egyptian people.

Guest, Male #6
He might have gathered some intelligence information on us. We need to exercise caution in dealing with this issue.

Guest, Male #7
We demand the release of all Egyptian prisoners held in Israel in exchange for this Israeli prisoner held by us.

Reporter, Male #2
The Israeli prime minister's office issued a statement announcing that the Israeli government approved the prisoner swap deal. The office added that the government's advisor will arrive today in Cairo to finalize the deal with Egyptian authorities.

Guest, Male #8
It's a successful deal. From a national and a humanitarian perspective, Egyptian prisoners shouldn't be left behind bars especially if they are held in Israeli jails.

Reporter, Male #2
This is how Egypt is looking out for its citizens' interests inside and outside the country. With this, Egyptian citizens will feel they are now being treated differently compared to before.</media:text>

Hundreds of Palestinians staged a protest rally in the West Bank city of Ramallah, condemning US President Barack Obama's speech before the UN General Assembly on the recognition of the sate of Palestine. The Palestinians said that Obama has surpassed all US presidents in favoring the Israeli occupation entity.

Reporter, Male #1
The Palestinians tuned in to Obama's speech, knowing that he would break his promises. In Tel Aviv, the speech received a warm welcome. In his speech before the UN, Obama has reversed his slogans announced in Cairo upon ascending to power. He failed to mention the settlements or the Palestinian state borders. Instead, he portrayed Tel Aviv as a peaceful entity surrounded by enemies. According to some Palestinians, in his speech Obama surpassed all of his predecessors in favoring Tel Aviv.

Guest, Female #2 (Layla Ghanam, Governor of Ramallah and al-Beirah)
The true face of the US, its policy, and its presidents has always been known to us. So this speech was not a disappointment to the Palestinians.

Reporter, Male #1
Not far from the memorial of Yasser Arafat, hundreds of Palestinians staged an angry rally denouncing Obama's speech before the UN. After Obama?s speech, anti-US sentiment grew in the Palestinian street, spreading from the majority of Palestinians to the entire population, including those who were quietly betting on a US role in the peace process.

Guest, Male #2
We as a teacher's union, along with other guilds, strongly reject Obama's speech. It was a bad speech for the Palestinians.

Reporter, Male #1
The Palestinians have sent a message to the Arab nations which reads: In light of the Islamic awakening, on Friday, Arab squares are to be turned into fronts against the US policy in the region.

Guest, Male #3
We plead to the Arab and Islamic public and the free world to say: No to US arrogance and double-standard policy, and no to Obama's political hypocrisy. God wiling, we will continue pushing ahead, along with our political leadership, until we achieve our dream of establishing our independent Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as its capital.

Reporter, Male #1
Anyone expecting honey from Obama has received poison instead. Obama pulled off the mask and exposed the "ugly" face of the US administration. He didn't equate the victim and the executor. Instead, he brought justice to the executor and heinously opened fire at the victim. This is the "change" that Obama talked about in Cairo upon ascending to power. Faris Sarafandi, Alalam, occupied Ramallah.

The Hamas movement said that US President Barack Obama's speech before the UN reflects Washington's complete bias toward the Israeli occupation entity. Hamas's spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri called for the adoption of a national Palestinian strategy based on self reliance and on Arab and Muslim roots. Abu Zuhri also called on the Arab and Islamic people to mount pressure on their rulers to reduce the US role in the region due to their hostile policy against the Palestinian and Arab interests and due to their absolute support of the Israeli occupation. Dozens of pro-Palestinian political activists held a protest rally in front of the British government headquarters in the capital London. The protestors expressed support for UN recognition of the state of Palestine. In a message submitted to British Prime Minister David Cameron, activists called on the British government to vote in favor of recognizing the Palestinian state, and described London's position as "confusing." In addition, activists said that the time has come for the Palestinians to launch their bid, following 20 years of Israeli procrastination and unproductive talks. On the other side of the street, several supporters of the Israeli entity demonstrated against the bid.

In the season of Islamic awakening: truth is born and the people's will shines to change the headlines, and of course, among those issues are the relations between the Israeli occupation entity and some Arab regimes. The beginning was similar in Cairo; the birth of a new Islamic awakening from the womb of current events and political repression. Then, the liberation of Egypt's sky from the Israeli flag began. And from Cairo to Amman, Jordan's capital, popular will was uninterrupted as the roar of popular anger reverberated to demand the departure of the occupation's ambassador from Jordan. The protests that started with the demand for change transformed Amman's streets into a platform to call for liberation. The liberation of the homeland from the presence of the Israeli occupation entity's embassy. Jordanians had a date with the revolution and intended to define their true goal.

Guest, Male #2
The Jordanian people came to demand an end to the Wadi Araba treaty. They came to demand an end to the relations between the Jordanian government and the Zionist entity. The masses are leading this demand and we confirm our right to resist the occupation and our right to remove the enemy from our land. We have the right to reject its embassy and reject all diplomatic, economic and cultural ties with it.

Reporter, Male # 1
The demonstrations illustrated the features of this season and highlighted its headlines and eventual implications. The protests in the al-Rabia area in the capital Amman resulted from genuine pain. The protestors chanted for the cancelation of the peace treaty with the Israeli entity, known as the Wadi Araba, and called for an end to ties with the entity. They also demanded its ambassador be expelled and an end to the normalization policy. Angry demonstrators chanted for the death of Israel and the US. In addition, they burned the Israeli flag. Some protestors tried to break the security cordon surrounding the Israeli embassy and breached the checkpoints but the heavily deployed security forces prevented the protestors, igniting sporadic clashes. The number of demonstrators grew after evening prayers when worshippers left the Kalouti Mosque located near Tel Aviv's embassy.

Avigdor Lieberman has said Tel Aviv may back the terrorist group PKK against Ankara. The recent deterioration in the relations between Turkey and Israel let to the right-wing Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman telling a newspaper that he had planned meetings ion Europe with PKK leaders to discuss ways of cooperating against Turkey. The PKK, which stands for the Kurdistan Workers' Party is a left-wing militant group listed by much of the international community as a terrorist organization and which engages in armed conflict against the Turkish state for autonomy in the country's southeast.
