<title>Revealed: Strange Truth Behind Israel's Mysterious Prisoner X</title>
        <link>http://news.linktv.org/videos/revealed-strange-truth-behind-israels-mysterious-prisoner-x?start=0</link>
<description>In a painstaking investigation, this report amassed compelling evidence to finally uncover the identity of Prisoner X, sending shock-waves around the world when it broke the story. A unique insight to the case. In early 2010 a man was escorted to arguably the most secure prison cell in Israel. The guards taking him there had no idea who he was or what he'd done. &quot; It is simply a person without a name and without an identity who is placed in complete and absolute isolation from the outside world. There is confidentiality surrounding the detainee in every respect&quot; a prison official stated. When word leaked about the mysterious inmate, Israeli media began to report and speculate but no sooner had a handful of stories been published, than the coverage was shut down by one of the most comprehensive suppression orders conceivable.&quot;Hermetically sealing him away in all human terms, even within the prison, suggests that it had to be something very, very touchy&quot;, Warren Reed, a former ASIS agent tells us. Prisoner X, or Ben Zygier, a Jewish-Australian citizen, may have been a Mossad agent. So why would the Israeli service make him disappear? Warren Reed reckons we may never find out: &quot;I think this will probably be under lock and key for 50 to 75 years, if not never to be released.&quot; But as international pressure mounts, the Knesset has launched an inquiry. &lt;br /&gt;</description>

<media:text>A claim made by Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak on a Channel 2 report says that Israel was on the verge of launching a military strike against Iran in 2010, but refrained from doing so because of opposition from then-IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi, who said that just raising an alert for war could spook Iran and touch off a war, even if no military strike was ordered, adding that the alert could not be carried out because the military did not yet have the capability for a successful strike against Iran's nuclear program. Former Mossad head Yair Dagan concurred, and suggested that Prime Minister Netanyahu and Barak were acting illegally by not bringing the issue before the Cabinet, which must approve decisions that could lead to war.</media:text>

An Egyptian criminal court in the city of al-Ismailia sentenced 14 people to death from the Tawhid and Jihad group, after they were convicted of bombing a police station in al-Arish, as well as the Bank of Alexandria. The court also punished four others with life sentences, while it acquitted six more.

Presenter, Male #1
The events of the case go back to June of last year, in an attack claimed by the Tawhid and Jihad group on members of the armed forces, which led to the deaths of three officers, three conscripts, and a civilian. There was also the attempted murder of others in armed attacks on the Bank of Alexandria and another police station in al-Arish.

Presenter, Male #1
Meanwhile, the Ansar Bait al-Maqdis, or Partisans of Jerusalem group, claimed responsibility for the attack that took place at the Egyptian-Israeli border two days ago. It led to the death of an Israeli soldier, and three of the armed men. In a statement that was published on websites attributed to jihadist groups, the group said that the operation was in response to the film that insulted the Prophet. However, the relationship between Ansar Bait al-Maqdis and Israel goes back to before this recent operation.

Here in the village of Khreiza, in northern Sinai, a mysterious attack occurred at the end of last month, which residents blamed Israel for. The attack led to the death of Ibrahim Aweida, who the residents say participated in previous operations against Israeli targets.

Guest, Male #3
This martyr, who was killed here, was accused by Israel of conducting operations against Israel. So, Israel sent its Mossad men, and others, to place explosives on the way from his home to the village.

Reporter, Male #2
Aweida was a member of Ansar Bait al-Maqdis, which is the group that announced its responsibility for the latest attack on the Israeli patrol near the place where Aweida was killed.

Reporter, Male #2
The statement that was released by the group says that three members, armed with machine guns and RPGs, set up an ambush for an Israeli patrol consisting of two cars. They alleged that at least eight soldiers were killed, before the attackers were killed in a later clash with the Israeli army's backup units.

Reporter, Male #2
The statement says that the operation was prepared to avenge the killing of Ibrahim Aweida. However, this objective was postponed for a later operation, while this operation was dedicated as a response to the film that insulted the Prophet.

Reporter, Male #2
The presence of jihadist groups in the Sinai came into the spotlight in the aftermath of the protests against the film. This was the scene we saw in Arish, after Friday prayers. It was titled, &quot;The Friday of Supporting the Prophet.&quot;

Reporter, Male #2
The next day, armed men besieged a camp of multinational forces in the area of al-Jura for hours, before army forces carried out a raid campaign that evening, which led to the arrest of a number of residents. And within hours, a response came in the form of two attacks on the Security Directorate of Northern Sinai and the Sheikh Zuwaid police station, which led to several injuries. These developments confirm that the operation that has been conducted by military and police forces in the Sinai for weeks has not been successful at imposing full control on the peninsula.</media:text>

<media:text>Reverberations continue in Israel following the abruptly-adjourned meeting of the Security Cabinet in the midst of discussions on Iran's nuclear program over a leak. However, it is difficult to determine exactly what was leaked; some sources reported a difference in opinion between Mossad and IDF intelligence over the timeline of Iran's nuclear efforts, but it was also reported that the main leak was caught by the military censor and not published. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not yet arranged for another forum that will have the authority to discuss and decide on any military strike against Iran's program, and has not commented on the leak or on the calls for polygraph tests for the cabinet members.

The security forces and intelligence services arrested 13 terrorists operating as agents for the assassinations' club that is run by the Israeli occupation entity with the aim of assassinating Iranian nuclear scientists. The detainees confessed to receiving their funds and training in the Israeli entity.

Reporter, Female #2
The Israeli-American campaign against Iran over its peaceful nuclear program is not limited to threats of military operations and sanctions, but also includes the assassination of the country's nuclear scientists. This, as Iranian intelligence members continue to look for those involved in these terrorist operations, those who plan and support them, and also those who execute them. All roads have led to Israel and the United States that stands behind it.

Guest, Male #1
My name is Maziar Ibrahimi; my alias is Saman Amir Abbas. I was sent to Israel to learn how to make explosives, shoot weapons and carry out military operations.

Guest, Female #3
I immigrated to Israel in 1980 to receive military training. We had to rotate every 30 minutes, and monitor the entries and exits of martyr Dr. Mohammadi.

Reporter, Female #2
These confessions are part of a series of confessions of the 13 individuals involved in this terrorist operation. Eight men and five women affiliated with networks established and trained by the Israeli intelligence services were recently arrested. This assassinations' club has killed four Iranian nuclear scientists since 2010. According to the accused, they have used bullets at times and sticky bombs at others. They were trained in this Israeli base, located near Tel Aviv in the occupied Palestinian territories, according to the detainees' confessions and documents seized by Iranian intelligence.

Guest, Male #2 (Haidar Maslahi, Iranian Minister of National Security)
I would like to congratulate the families of the martyred nuclear scientists for this great success. It must be noted that the assassinations directed by the arrogant powers and Israeli intelligence services, and other groups not only led to the martyrdom of some, but also led to the injury of the spouses of the martyrs, and the head of the Atomic Energy Organization, Fereydoun Abbasi.

Reporter, Female #2
In addition to these arrests, other terrorist operations planned by the detained in Tehran were foiled, operations that implement American-Israeli agendas. And so the question remains, who will respond to these children's questions, whose innocent eyes wonder for which crime did their scientist fathers have to be killed? And when will the slogan of human rights start being adopted?</media:text>

Dagan sparked controversy last year when he dismissed a potential Israeli air strike as silly and disadvantageous. Dagan told Lesley Stahl of 60 Minutes that he believes Tehran is currently exercising caution out of concern over a possible military intervention, calling the regime in Iran &quot;a very rational regime.&quot;

President Shimon Peres is continuing his own mission to the United States, where he is focused on shoring up greater support for Israel's interests. Speaking a forum in Beverly Hills last night, Peres again stressed that a nuclear Iran poses a grave threat to the world.</media:text>

The report in the Kuwaiti al-Jarida newspaper said that Iranian agents were attempting to target Barak, who will be heading to Singapore to attend an international aviation exhibition. Barak today is in Tokyo, where he's discussing the Iranian nuclear issue with Japanese Defense Minister Naoki Tanaka. Barak discounted Iranian claims of new nuclear achievements, which he called &quot;exaggerated&quot; and designed to scare off action against the Islamic republic. Barak accused the Iranians of trying to create the impression that they've passed the so-called &quot;point of no return&quot; in their drive to develop nuclear weapons, and that attempts to curb its development are too late. Barak also discounted Iran's announcement yesterday that it has developed a new centrifuge that's able to enrich uranium faster, and said that Iranians are priding themselves on achievements that do not exist. While not ruling out military action, Barak urged further sanctions against Iran.</media:text>

<media:text>New allegations today that Israel carried out this week's attack on a missile base in Iran. A man who once headed a Iranian state-run organization and who has close ties to the ruling regime in Tehran was quoted by Britain's Guardian newspaper as saying he believes the explosion was part of the covert war against Iran led by Israel. This follows a report yesterday in Time Magazine that quoted a Western intelligence source who also insisted that Mossad was behind the attack. Officially, Iran said the blast was an accident as explosives were being transferred from one area to another.

Time quotes a Western intelligence source telling the magazine that the Iranian claim that the explosion resulted from an accident should not be believed. The source also claimed that more sabotage is being planned to impede Iran's ability to develop and deliver a nuclear weapon. Seventeen Iranians were killed in Saturday's blast including Hassan Tehrani Moghaddam, who was a key figure in the Iranian nuclear program, an architect of Iran's missile defense.

The Israeli security cabinet unanimously approved a deal to swap prisoners with Egypt.
This news comes after Cairo reached a final agreement with Washington and Tel Aviv to exchange Israeli spy Ilan Grapel for 25 Egyptian prisoners held by Tel Aviv, including three children. Israeli sources said the deal will be completed next Thursday. Grapel was accused of conducting intelligence surveillance for a foreign state as well as inciting protestors to vandalize public property and government institutions. Meanwhile, the Egyptian public welcomed the deal and expressed joy while also urging caution in dealing with the Israeli side.

For the second time in less than ten days, the Egyptian negotiator was able to complete a prisoner swap deal with the Israelis. Egypt agreed to swap 25 Egyptian prisoners, including three children, for Israeli spy Ilan Grapel, who was arrested by security agencies during the January 25 incidents.

Guest, Male #4
The deal is a victory for the Egyptians. People had expressed doubt about this deal, saying that Egypt's position was weak. However, this deal shows that we still have the leadership.

Guest, Male #5
We don't care about this Israeli spy. What is important is freeing the Egyptian prisoners held by Israel.

Reporter, Male #2
The Egyptian spy, who carried out surveillance on behalf of the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, traveled to several areas in Egypt to stir internal strife and conflict among the Egyptian people.

Guest, Male #6
He might have gathered some intelligence information on us. We need to exercise caution in dealing with this issue.

Guest, Male #7
We demand the release of all Egyptian prisoners held in Israel in exchange for this Israeli prisoner held by us.

Reporter, Male #2
The Israeli prime minister's office issued a statement announcing that the Israeli government approved the prisoner swap deal. The office added that the government's advisor will arrive today in Cairo to finalize the deal with Egyptian authorities.

Guest, Male #8
It's a successful deal. From a national and a humanitarian perspective, Egyptian prisoners shouldn't be left behind bars especially if they are held in Israeli jails.

Reporter, Male #2
This is how Egypt is looking out for its citizens' interests inside and outside the country. With this, Egyptian citizens will feel they are now being treated differently compared to before.</media:text>

Egypt's Supreme State Security Court has sentenced Egyptian businessman Tarek Abdel Rezek Hussein and two Israelis to life in prison for spying for Israel. According to court documents, Israel established a fictitious business name for the Egyptian spy in China as a cover-up. The two Israeli agents, who were sentenced in absentia, were identified by the court as Adi Moshe and Joseph Dimor. The defendants are intelligent officers working for the Israeli Mossad. In Cairo, an unprecedented development has emerged that has caught Egyptians by surprise ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections. Eighteen Egyptian blocs have joined force under a unified political coalition, dubbed &quot;the Democratic Alliance of Egypt.&quot; The coalition includes political, liberal, national, and Islamic parties that have adopted different political positions on controversial issues in Egypt, most notably the issue of priority with regards to the constitution and elections. Ahmad al-Kilani reports from Cairo.

Reporter, Male #2
In a notable development, 18 political parties have agreed to form a unified coalition, named &quot;the Democratic Alliance of Egypt.&quot; The alliance introduced a draft bill to the People's Assembly, calling for a wider representation of political parties as well as banning the use of money and favoritism in the election process. The proposal will be submitted to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. The new alliance has brought together many different political parties, including liberal, national, and Islamic; a move that did not seem possible given their political polarization.

Guest, Male #3 (Dr. Imad Jad, Expert at Ahram Institute for Political Studies)
They are merely dialogues between the Muslim Brotherhood, Wafad, the Unionists, the Ghad, the Naseri, the Wasat, and the Justice parties. It's not an alliance yet. What's bringing them together is a special interest, nothing more. Once a conflict of interest arises, this coalition will collapse.

Reporter, Male #2
During a meeting hosted by the Freedom and Justice Party, the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, the blocs vowed to continue political consultation and coordination. The blocs agreed to submit joint electoral lists with representatives from all parties. However, the parties seem to disagree in principles over the coalition's priorities.
Some parties, especially the ones that seem to be ready for elections, are calling for holding elections before drafting the constitution, while the majority is demanding the other way around in order to prevent the winning parties from dominating the constitutional process.

Guest, Male #4 (Dr. Mohammad al-Baltaji, a leader with the Freedom and Justice Party)
They are trying to delay the elections, citing the constitution first. I don't understand it. This will put everything in this country on hold. There will be no constitution, no parliament, and no elected government. We will continue to live in this dark cycle without proper monitoring. There's no one monitoring our affairs. What is the government, both its interior and foreign branches, doing about that?

Reporter, Male #2, back on screen
The new alliance proves once again that the political parties' differing positions don't prevent them from coming together, provided that each bloc has something to gain. This will definitely help reduce the intensity of political polarization plaguing the country after the revolution. Ahmad al-Kilani, Dubai TV, Cairo.</media:text>
