Who would expect a bull to appear out of nowhere and charge a pedestrian walking along a busy Malaga street? Even more suprising was that the pedestrian grabbed the bull by the horns, twisted his neck and wrestled him to th ground. Others raced to his aid, and no one was hurt, including the bull, who had escaped from a nearby livestock pen. Watch it here.

Female Crime Reporters Tell It Like It Is on Mexico's Bloody Streets

What's it like covering crime in Mexico? It's similar to being a war correspondent in your own country, a female journalist in Ciudad Juarez tells Vice. Reporters who cover politics and crime for the Diario de Juarez, all women, talk about the changing face of crime in Mexico, as well as problems with the soldiers and federal police brought in to fight it, and with politicians who don't deal with it. Warning: Images are graphic and disturbing.
If gay couples from the US or anywhere else are thinking about adoption outside of their country, they can write off Russia. Russia's lower house of parliament has unanimously passed a bill to ban the adoption of children by foreign gay couples, as well as by unmarried couples and single parents from nations where same-sex marriage is allowed. The measure is expected to pass the upper house and be signed into law by Vladimir Putin. "We are not ready to give children away to countries which cannot provide their security," declared the deputy head of the state committee on family and children affairs.
A Greek court has ruled that state broadcaster ERT must have its signal restored. The decision came on the heels of an outpouring of anger after the government shut down the network as part of its austerity strategy. The court move may not be all good news, however. It's not clear if the old staff of nearly 3,000 will be rehired, or be brought back at the old salaries.

Campaigner Carla Dauden has uploaded this video to YouTube to explain why she -- and many Brazilians like her -- are unhappy about the amount of money being spent on sporting events such as next year's soccer World Cup, at a time of extreme poverty in her country. In the video's description, she says: "Today (Jun 17, 2013) thousands of people are going to the streets of São Paulo to protest against the raise in the prices of bus tickets. This video was recorded right before the recent protests started, but with all of this going on, it becomes even more evident that the World Cup and the Olympics should not be our priority. The world has to know about what's really going on."

The new Turkish protest meme is the "standing man," reportedly performer Erdem Gündüz, who stood for hours in silent protest in Istanbul's Taksim Square. No chants, no rocks, little movement. Several others eventually joined him, all silently defying the Turkish government's ban on public gatherings in the square. Cops eventually busted them all, and they were led away ... quietly.
Obama: What Secrets? NSA Snooping 'Transparent'

President Barack Obama has a quirky concept of transparency, given that "transparent" is how he describes National Security Agency snooping on American phone calls and emails, which was a shock to a nation that first learned of the spying through leaks by former CIA worker Edward Snowden. Obama was referring to the fact that the special Foreign Intelligence Surveillance court must approve all snooping, even though decisions are issued in secret.
Supreme Court: Voters Don't Have to Prove They're Citizens

Arizona can't require proof of citizenship from people seeking to vote in federal elections, the Supreme Court has ruled 7-2. A standard federal voter registration form intended for use nationwide requires people to swear under penalty of perjury that they are citizens when they sign, but the state cannot require more in federal elections, said the justices. A law demanding proof of citizenship was passed as part of a 2004 Arizona initiative in a political atmosphere increasingly anti-immigrant.
Veteran foreign correspondent Patrick Cockburn of the Independent newspaper in the UK joins Democracy Now! to discuss the Obama administration's decision to begin directly arming Syrian rebels after concluding the regime of President Bashar al-Assad has used chemical weapons. "There must be some doubts about this," Cockburn says, adding that it "reminds me of what they were saying in 2002 and 2003 about Saddam [Hussein]'s weapons of mass destruction. <media:text>Furious Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard is slamming as "grossly sexist" a not-so-subtle slam against her at a Liberal Party fundraiser. A menu for the do featured the "Julia Gillard Kentucky Fried Quail," including "small breasts, huge thighs and a big red box." The leader of the center-right Liberal Party, Tony Abbott, ended up criticizing the dirty dig, adding: "We should be better than that. We should be appealing to every Australian's best self."</media:text>

Turkey in Revolt: How Istanbul's Uprising Began

It started with a passion to protect one of the small spots of green in Istanbul, Gezi Park, but it was the violent, deadly response by police to a protest to save the space that stunned participants and witnesses watching it on TV. The clash unleashed a mighty wave of pent up anger at the government, and ignited the biggest civil uprising in the history of the Turkish Republic. The unrest has spread to more than 60 cities where protests are still going strong. Vice was at Ground Zero the day it all began.
