<media:text>Iran says that the International Atomic Energy Agency is distancing itself from its principle of fairness due to mismanagement and the influence of certain countries. The head of Iran's atomic energy organization, Fereydoun Abbasi, warned that some states had been swaying the UN agency in its decision-making. He also talked of the penetration by "terrorists" and "saboteurs" in the IAEA, adding that there are enough reasons to be pessimistic about the agency's reports.</media:text>

<media:text>Regarding a negotiated solution over the Iranian nuclear program, there will likely be a military confrontation in 2013 with Iran-- this was the warning sounded by former US Ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk in an interview with CBS. He explained that Israel sees the turmoil around them from a much closer perspective than the US, making them "very nervous."

Despite the lack of progress so far, the IAEA will hold further talks with Iran aimed at clarifying concerns about its nuclear energy program. IAEA chief Yukiya Amano made the announcement at the member state gathering, stressing that the agency is committed to further dialogue with Iran. EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton is scheduled to meet with Iran's chief nuclear negotiator as well. German Chancellor Angela Merkel also said that a political solution is still possible to the Iranian nuclear issue.</media:text>

<media:text>The 35-nation board of the UN nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, has censured Iran for defying international demands to curb uranium enrichment, and failing to address mounting disquiet about its suspected research into atomic weapons. The board overwhelmingly passed a resolution in Vienna voicing serious concerns about Tehran's nuclear advances, while also making clear its desire for a peaceful resolution of the dispute. Russia and China joined four US-led Western powers in sponsoring the resolution. There were three abstentions, and only Cuba voted against.</media:text>

However, IBA says that even if the document, which demands Iran stop activities that could be used to make nuclear weapons, is approved, it cannot be enforced by the IAEA panel.</media:text>

Amid "significant differences" between the P5+1 group and Iran over the latter's nuclear program, the talks were moved to Moscow. This news comes after two days of intensive negotiations in Baghdad failed to bring about a solution to the nuclear crisis. The two sides agreed to hold a new round of talks in Moscow next month. Tehran expressed willingness to address the issue of enriching uranium at 20 percent. Our correspondent, Shafiq Abed al-Jabar, reports from Baghdad.

Reporter, Male #2
Iran has agreed, in principle, to discuss the issue of uranium enrichment at 20 percent, only if the UN recognizes its right to enrich uranium. In response, world powers described the Iranian position as "positive", but acknowledged that there are still "significant differences." The two sides agreed to hold another meeting, slated for June 18 in Moscow. This is how the Iraq-sponsored talks between the P5+1 group and Iran ended.

Guest, Female #1 (Catherine Ashton, EU Foreign Policy Chief)
It's clear that we both want to make progress, and that there is some common ground. However, significant differences remain. Nonetheless we do agree on the need for further discussion to expand the common ground.

Reporter, Male #2
The nuclear negotiations, which reached a stalemate amid proposals and counter-proposals, failed to address the core issues, as confirmed by Tehran. Iran described the talks as "incomplete," because they failed to secure an agreement over the issues of uranium enrichment, and the surprise inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency of its nuclear sites. Amid the uncertainty, both sides agreed to return to the bargaining table soon.

Guest, Male #3 (Saeed Jalili, Iranian Chief Nuclear Negotiator)
We entered into negotiations from all angles, with each side presenting its point of view. Naturally, the talks and dialogue will continue. We scheduled another meeting in Moscow.

Although there was no definite solution to the crisis, Iraq succeeded in narrowing the gap between the international community and Iran. And in turn, this will help regional stability. Baghdad did everything in its power to bring the two sides of the nuclear issue closer, by hosting intensive and long talks over many unresolved issues. Although there was no clear agreement, the P5+1 group and Iran agreed to hold another round of talks. Shafiq Abed al-Jabar, Dubai TV, Baghdad.</media:text>

As the new round of nuclear talks was launched in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the European Union announced that world powers have offered Iran a new set of proposals. The new round of talks is taking place amid growing concern over Iranian nuclear ambitions, and amid hope of finding a solution for the longtime nuclear crisis. Al-Saghir Salam reports.

Reporter, Male #1
Amid cautious optimism, the Iranian nuclear issue was moved from Istanbul to Baghdad. Iraq is hosting a new round of nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 group, in a bid to ease tension over the Iranian nuclear program, which Western countries suspect includes military aspects aimed to produce an atomic bomb. On the other hand, Iran has repeatedly announced that its nuclear program is peaceful. This is what the Baghdad talks aim to resolve.

Guest, Male #2 (Ali al-Dabbagh, Iraqi Government Official Spokesman)
We have an emerging role in the region. We would like to help resolve regional problems. And because of our good relations with both Iran and the West, we can play a role in such talks. We hope to solve many of the region's issues, including the Iranian nuclear dispute.

During the Baghdad summit, the six world powers are seeking to convince Iranian negotiators, led by Saeed Jalili, Chief of Iran's National Security Council, to suspend uranium enrichment by 20 percent. In addition, Iran must agree to comply with the Additional Protocol of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, which allows surprise inspections of nuclear sites. This news comes a day after the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Yukiya Amano, announced that his agency and Tehran are close to reaching a deal, aimed at removing the ambiguities surrounding the Iranian nuclear program. In response, the US and Israel expressed their reservation and skepticism over the proposed deal, saying they would like to see tangible steps on the ground, and not just sweet talk.</media:text>

Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Yukiya Amano announced that the IAEA and Iran will soon sign an agreement on Iran's nuclear program. Speaking in Vienna Airport upon his return from Tehran, Amano said that he and Saeed Jalili, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, reached an agreement on a systematic plan to clear up ambiguity and resolve any remaining issues between the two sides. Amano considered the decision an important development, and described his talks with Jalili in Tehran as extremely helpful and positive. Amano's announcement came on the eve of a round of talks in Baghdad between Iran and the six major powers. Our Al-Alam reporter quoted Michael Mann, spokesman for EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, as saying that the six countries will present new proposals, and talks should cover essential issues. Meanwhile, Iran welcomed realistic and equitable talks.

Reporter, Male #2
Only one day until Iran and the six countries hold their important and anticipated negotiations in Baghdad. On the eve of the meeting, Iran, through the speaker of its parliament, Ali Larijani, welcomed any realistic and equitable negotiations, while insisting on upholding its lawful rights.

Reporter, Male #2
During a parliamentary session, Larijani asserted that his country is seeking a solution through serious negotiations, and is waiting for Western countries to change their hostile policies, and cease their deception and political games. The secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, stated from Baghdad that the Istanbul talks were a starting point; they laid the foundation, and Iran aims to achieve further progress in the Baghdad meeting.

Guest, Male #3 (Saeed Jalili, Iranian Supreme National Security Council)
We should say that the Istanbul negotiations were a starting point, and they laid out the groundwork. And today in Baghdad, we will try to bring about further progress with the P5+1 group in order to achieve overdue goals.

Jalili held successful talks with the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Yukiya Amano, in Tehran. Amano described his discussions with Jalili as extremely positive and helpful. Upon his return to Vienna, Amano said that a decision was made for reaching an agreement between Iran and the agency, which will be signed very soon.

Reporter, Male #2
The atmosphere of the negotiations was also praised in the statements of Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, who spoke during his meeting with Amano of opening a new and constructive channel for cooperation between Tehran and the IAEA, based on mutual trust and understanding. He stressed the importance of focusing on the disarmament of nuclear weapons, in addition to preventing their proliferation.

Reporter, Male #2
While it seemed clear that Salehi was pointing to the Israeli entity's nuclear arsenals, the entity's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on the sextet to tighten its noose on Iran. He demanded the cessation of any Iranian nuclear activity, as well as the dismantling of Iran's nuclear facilities. Netanyahu justified his demands by saying that Tehran is pursuing the destruction of the Israeli entity, and that it supports revolutionary parties in the region. In another provocative move, the U.S. Senate approved a new package of economic sanctions targeting the Iranian oil sector. The new package extends sanctions to cover commerce with the National Iranian Oil Company and the National Iranian Tanker Company, and it aims to prevent Tehran from continuing to sell oil.</media:text>

Israeli air force commander Ido Nehushtan said his forces are entirely ready to carry out any military operation it may be assigned to, including striking Iran's nuclear sites.

On the other hand, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, warned the superpowers of making any miscalculations and issuing statements that could harm the negotiations scheduled for May 23rd in Baghdad, regarding Tehran's nuclear case.

Reporter, Male #2
The Israeli air force is ready to execute any mission it may be assigned to, including destroying Iran's nuclear facilities. The Israeli air force commander was keen to announce the readiness, coinciding with the US's announcement that it is just as militarily prepared to use force against Iran if the diplomatic efforts fail to limit Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Reporter, Male #2
The US's threat was conveyed by Washington's ambassador to Tel Aviv, who revealed that his country has completed the preparation of its military plan to execute a possible strike on Iran. Furthermore, the US military was trained on executing the operation several times. The US-Israeli statements on the matter were issued at a critical time, only several days before resuming the P5+1 talks with Iran concerning its nuclear case. The talks were initially held in Istanbul with an agreement to follow up in Baghdad on May 23rd. At this point, many followers of the issue place these threats in the framework of Washington and Tel Aviv's attempts to prove their seriousness regarding the military option, hoping it will be a helpful factor in prompting Iran to offer concessions, and agree to the demands of the superpowers, who seem fearful of the upcoming Baghdad meeting from turning into another stop where Iran gains additional time.

Reporter, Male #2
For its part, Iran said that in the past few days, a positive atmosphere dominated its talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency. The talks, in Iran's opinion, are going in the right direction. At the same time, Iran attempted to show its composure against all the circulating threats, warning the major powers to make no mistake in their calculations.

Guest, Male #3 (Saeed Jalili, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security)
We are ready to cooperate, but some say that time is running out. I want to tell them that what's running out is their time of pressuring the Iranian people.

Reporter, Male #2
In between warning and counter-warning, it appears that all sides are practicing the brinkmanship. Day by day, Iran is suffering under the burden of sanctions, while the West and Israel are sending out warnings at a moment of political tension which could lead to an extremely costly war.</media:text>

<media:text>Iran's ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency has once again denied allegations that Tehran is pursuing nuclear weapons. Dr. Ali Asghar Soltanieh also described recent allegations of nuclear activity at a military site in the capital Tehran as "ridiculous." Dr. Soltanieh called on the UN Security Council to condemn recent threats of military action against Iran's nuclear facilities by Israel. He accused Tel Aviv of violating the UN charter.

The 120 member states of the Non-Aligned Movement, otherwise known as NAM, has once again voiced support for Iran's right to nuclear technology. The NAM statement stresses resolving Iran's nuclear issue through diplomacy and dialogue without any preconditions. NAM has also called on countries who claim to have evidence of possible militarization of Iran's nuclear program to present their findings.

In Vienna, the director of the International Atomic Energy Agency said Iran is not being open about its nuclear program. This, as the UN's nuclear watchdog today resumed debate over suspected nuclear weapon sites in Iran. The agenda of the IAEA's weeklong quarterly meeting was again dominated by Iran's disputed nuclear program. Agency head Yukiya Amano told CNN that there is great concern over undeclared facilities in the Islamic republic.

The five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany have agreed to a joint statement on the issue, with Russia notably participating in the isolation of Iran. European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton announced the P5+1's acceptance of Iran's written agreement to reopen serious negotiations with the West, which could begin as early as next month.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu still holds out hope that a military strike will not be needed in order to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, arguing that Iran can be deterred from developing nukes when they realize they face a credible threat from the military option, which paradoxically could eliminate the need for a military option.</media:text>

The EU foreign policy chief has called for the resumption of talks between the P5+1 and Iran over Tehran's nuclear energy program. Catherine Ashton said the two sides should only set a date and a venue for the talks. Iran has agreed to hold comprehensive talks with the P5+1. Tehran says it will allow the inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency to visit a military site southeast of Tehran, only based on modality. The IAEA says it wants to make sure Iran has not used the site for what it calls highly explosive tests. Tehran allowed the agency in 2005 to visit the site twice. Following those visits, the IAEA confirmed Iran's non-diversion and said the case was closed.</media:text>

US President Barack Obama reiterated that his country prefers the diplomatic option to solve the issue of the Iranian nuclear program, and confirmed that other options are not off the table. The statement was made during Obama's meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which the two sides discussed means to deal with the Iranian nuclear issue.

Guest, Male #1 (Barack Obama, US President)
Even as we will continue on the diplomatic front, we will continue to tighten pressure when it comes to sanctions. I reserve all options, and my policy here is not going to be one of containment, my policy is going to be one of preventing Iran from getting a weapon. As I indicated yesterday in my speech, when I say all options are on the table, I mean it. Having said that, I know both the prime minister and I prefer to solve this diplomatically because we understand the costs of any military action.

Presenter, Female #1
The director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency said his organization was unable to confirm that Iran's nuclear program does not have a military dimension. In his speech at the closed board meeting of the IAEA, Yukiya Amano said the agency is unable to provide credible assurances about the absence of undeclared nuclear material and activities in Iran. Amano's statement comes as Israel and the US move to prevent Iran from possessing a nuclear arsenal.

Reporter, Male #2
The International Atomic Energy Agency's board of governors is once again fixated on Iran's nuclear program. Iran asserts the program is purely civilian and peaceful, while the West suspects it is concealing military dimensions. The IAEA's board of governors will be compelled to take action, in one shape or another, in the absence of any progress on the issue.

Reporter, Male #2
In the opening speech at a closed board session of the 35-nation IAEA, Director-General Yukiya Amano stressed he is unable to assure that Iran is using all the nuclear materials it possesses for peaceful activities. He particularly stated that Iran has recently increased its production of enriched uranium. In his February report, Yukiya Amano had pointed to major disputes between the IAEA and Iran over the means to solve the outstanding issues. This puts the ball back in the court of the 35-nation board of governors, delegated to determine the roadmap that should be followed.

Reporter, Male #2
At the same time, the P5 plus 1 group, which consists of the five permanent UN Security Council members with veto power, namely the US, France, the UK, China, Russia, in addition to Germany, are considering Iran's February 14 proposition to resume negotiations, stalled since January 2011 in Istanbul. Russia and China have adopted a more flexible position towards Iran, and doubt the necessity to adopt a resolution.

Reporter, Male #2
The pressure on Iran was recently heightened after the United States and the European Union intensified their sanctions on Iran, while Israel is threatening a military strike. In turn, Iran is accusing the United States and Israel of incitement against it. US President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are holding talks to reach a joint position on the Iranian nuclear program.

Reporter, Male #2
Meanwhile, in his speech at the conference of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, AIPAC, Obama criticized the overzealous talks of war, reaffirming at the same time his support of Israel's positions and rejection of Iran's possession of nuclear weapons. In addition, Obama approved what he referred to as Israel's right to make its own decisions on what is required to meet its security needs. This prompted Netanyahu to repeatedly commend Obama, saying he will not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons, and all options are still open in order to achieve that goal. Israel views Iran's nuclear program as a threat to its security. It continues to prepare and train for a possible Iranian nuclear attack on its territories. Hayyan Aqoub, BBC.</media:text>

Iran's envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency says Tehran does not rule out providing access to its military sites, including Parchin. Ali Asghar Soltanieh said that access to military sites will be possible under a set of conditions that Iran has set for the IAEA to follow. He also rejected allegations against Iran's nuclear energy program as baseless. Soltanieh added that last week Tehran offered the IAEA delegation to visit a site, which was referred to as a place for testing explosive material, in a report by the IAEA chief. But the delegation was ordered to return to Vienna. Soltanieh said Iran is determined to continue its cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog despite sanctions and the assassination of its nuclear scientists. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, insisted today that his country is not seeking to develop atomic weapons. Khamenei said that his scientists have been instructed to continue their important nuclear work. We tried to reach agreement on a way forward to resolve all the outstanding issues. And in particular we discussed the possible military dimensions of Iran's nuclear program. <media:text>The West says Iran is making a nuclear bomb. Tehran says it's treating cancer. This compelling investigation gets right to the heart of the maelstrom, interrogating facts, falsehoods and shocking allegations. "We have one million patients struggling with cancer and they need regular isotopes", argues Iran's ambassador for the IAEA, Dr Ali Soltanieh. Experts are quick to dismiss this reasoning, saying Iran's reactor at Natanz is, "too big, too far from hospitals and too secretive". Yet in this report the former director of the IAEA, Robert Kelley, admits that the famously leaked 2009 IAEA document, supposedly offering proof of Iran's nuclear ambitions, is likely to be a forgery. Whatever the truth, Israel is growing increasingly twitchy. "Israel must reserve the right to defend itself", Netanyahu has publicly announced. But is his rhetoric leading towards military confrontation? "Once you make those kind of threats, you come to the point where you've got to show you're serious". Yet Ronen Bergen, an expert on the Israeli secret service, insists that if it had been up to Israel, Iran would have had an atom bomb years ago. He describes how during the 1970s Israel actively encouraged Iran to move towards nuclear armament. "Israel was knowingly helping Iran to build the vehicle for a nuclear bomb". Despite current international pressure, Iran isn't shying away from fighting talk. The suggestion of heavy interference in their nuclear plans is met with a chilling riposte: "We will teach them a lesson they will never forget in history". </media:text>

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi welcomed the International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors to his country. He asserted that there is nothing about Iran's nuclear activities that calls for suspicion. On the sidelines of the African Union's summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Salehi said nuclear fuel rods with 20 percent enriched uranium would be used in the Tehran research reactor within a month. He reiterated that his country enriched uranium according to its rights after relevant countries abandoned their obligations to provide nuclear fuel for the reactor. The Iranian Defense Ministry unveiled the manufacturing of 155mm smart munitions named "Basir" on the anniversary of the Islamic revolution's victory in Iran. Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier-General Ahmad Vahidi said these munitions are laser-guided with high accuracy in targeting tanks, command centers, and moving objects. The munitions can be used in armed confrontations in mountainous areas. He added that the laser system can very accurately determine targets. In addition, Vahidi revealed a special naval aircraft and new cruise missiles produced by Iranian experts. Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qasimi said his country will cut off its oil exports from certain countries, stressing that there are other markets than Europe. Iranian parliamentarians expected the European Union to retract its decision to impose an embargo on Iranian oil exports. Meanwhile, India said it has not made a decision about its Iranian oil imports.

Reporter, Female #2
Iran continues to react to Western pressure, most recently the European Union's embargo on Iranian oil. Iran does not see this embargo as a matter of significance, asserting that it has alternative markets. To strengthen its position, Iran announced it will cut off oil exports to Europe after the Iranian parliament issued a draft resolution on the matter. Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qasimi said Tehran will cutoff its oil exports to certain countries soon, stressing the existence of alternative markets to Europe. He indicated that Iran's oil exports to Europe accounted for less than 20 percent of its gross exports and that ending them would not cause any setbacks for the country. His deputy Ahmad Qalebani reiterated the same statement, stating that Tehran has received oil requests from new customers. Qalebani considered Europe an untrustworthy partner to Iran, warning that Europe's decision will have a negative impact on its nations. During the parliamentary session that completed a draft resolution about ending oil exports to Europe, representatives affirmed that Europe's oil embargo was nothing but a psychological and media war.

Guest, Male #1 (Hussein Naqwi, Iranian Member of Parliament)
The purpose of creating this issue is to generate the atmosphere of a psychological war on our country's economy. By issuing the draft resolution halting oil exports to Europe, the representatives wanted to reiterate that our economy will not be affected, even if the European Union does indeed stop buying Iranian oil.

Reporter, Female #2
The members of parliament expected Europe to retract its decision, considering Europe to be the most affected in this war.

Guest, Male #2 (Sheikh Hussein Ibrahimi, Member of the National Security Committee in Iranian Parliament)
The Europeans themselves were hesitant about their decision. They made this decision under US pressure. European companies themselves said the embargo will inflict damages on them. It is not easy to find an alternative oil supplier.

Reporter, Female #2
Indeed, Europe will be the biggest loser in this war, especially its countries with deteriorating economies such as Greece and Italy, in light of the difficulty in finding another supplier that will compensate for Iranian oil without demanding additional financial guarantees. On the other hand, Iran received confirmation that its major customers will continue buying Iranian oil. The most recent confirmation was from India. Indian Minister of Finance Pranab Mukherjee said India cannot reduce its oil imports from Iran, a major regional power whose economy has an impact on the economy of the whole Third World. Indeed, Iran is a power that has managed to overcome the sanctions imposed on it for over 30 years and become a power with significant weight in the region. </media:text>

In Egypt, former chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency Mohamed ElBaradei proposed a new roadmap for Egypt in light of the rising popular rejection to the Military Council, which has been in power since former President Hosni Mubarak's resignation. ElBaradei called on Egypt's People's Assembly to immediately elect a provisional president before forming a committee to draft the constitution. In addition, the Nobel Peace Price laureate requested that the new constitution define the political system and guarantee a civil state, human rights, and freedom. Our correspondent in Cairo reported that clashes erupted in Tahrir Square, which is currently packed with protestors taking part in the "Second Friday of Rage." Egypt TV aired images of a large number people fighting with sticks; the reason for these clashes has not yet been verified.

Reporter, Female #1
Hundreds of protestors began flowing to Tahrir Square in central Cairo early this morning. Thousands joined them in marches that took off from the capital's major mosques after Friday prayers. The protestors chose to name today "the Friday of Pride and Dignity" and "the Second Friday of Rage," in remembrance of last year's "Friday of Rage." Last year, security forces attacked protestors in Tahrir Square causing dozens of deaths, which gave momentum to the subsequent wave of protests against Mubarak.

Has the regime indeed left? Has Mubarak's regime indeed left?

However, this Friday's demands are different from last year's because of the disputes between the political movements participating in the protests. The Muslim Brotherhood considered the occasion a celebration, calling for social justice and demanding retribution for those who killed revolutionaries. Meanwhile, other revolutionary parties, most notably the April 6 Youth Movement, believe the revolution is not complete and demand that the Military Council immediately transfer power to civilians.

Guest, Male #4
Our demand today is to complete the revolution. We peacefully call for transferring power to civilians. We want to restore security to the country and we would like to mobilize the country's political parties, social, and economic movements so the country can stand on its own.

Reporter, Female #1
The division among various political parties seems obvious in regards to the rally that began two days ago to commemorate the revolution. While the April 6 Youth Movement announced it would remain in the square until authority is transferred to civilians, the Muslim Brotherhood was eager to affirm that the purpose of its participation was to protect the square. The Military Council vowed to transfer power after the presidential elections scheduled to take place this coming April. Wafa'a Zayan, BBC. </media:text>

European diplomats stated that European Union ambassadors agreed to impose a ban on Iranian oil imports and sanctions on Iran's central bank. However, the ministers decided to postpone the full enforcement of the ban and give Iran a grace period that will end on July 1. Meanwhile, the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed a planned visit to Iran on January 29. The IAEA said the main objective of the visit is to solve all outstanding substantive issues pertaining to Tehran's activities.

The European Union is punishing Iran once again for its nuclear program by adopting sanctions described as "unprecedented." These sanctions include imposing a gradual ban on Iranian oil imports while allowing existing contracts to be fulfilled within several months, freezing assets in Iran's central bank in an attempt to cut off its source of investments, and banning all trade of gold, diamonds, and other precious metals with Iran. Iran did not respond to the Europeans' call for resuming negotiations about its nuclear program and is now, therefore, facing EU sanctions.

Guest, Female #3 (Catherine Ashton, EU Foreign Policy Chief)
The pressure of sanctions is designed to try and make sure that Iran takes seriously our request to come to the table.

Reporter, Female #2
The French president believes that imposing additional sanctions means avoiding the risk of a military intervention, especially since this threat was recently escalated. Both sides held military exercises in the Gulf, and Iran threatened to close down the Strait of Hormuz. But it seems as though the exceedingly tense situation has been mitigated to a certain degree. The US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln passed through the Strait of Hormuz accompanied by French and British military regiments. The transit took place without incident. Tehran did not consider the transit to be a new threat, and interpreted it as part of the West's permanent military presence in the region. Some see Iran's interpretation as a retreat from its previous threats suggesting that US aircraft carriers should not return to the strategic waterway. Meanwhile, others believed it was merely a change of strategy. Iran is not giving up on what it says is its right to possess nuclear capabilities, which it describes as peaceful. Washington approached a number of countries to persuade them to reduce their dependence on Iran's oil. These attempts succeeded with some countries, such as Japan, and are ongoing with others. Washington's attempts are currently focused on African countries.

Tehran received a new booby-trapped message today. This morning, a nuclear scientist was assassinated and two of his companions were injured by a magnetic bomb placed under the victim's car near Allameh Tabatabai University. Tehran held Israel responsible for the attack, which is reminiscent of pervious attacks on Iranian nuclear scientists. In addition, Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi accused Israel, saying that the assassination of scientists would not stop his country's nuclear development. Our correspondent Reda al-Basha reports from Tehran.

Reporter, Male #2
A new explosion rocked Tehran. The victim was nuclear scientist Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, one of the directors of the Natanz uranium enrichment facility. Two of Roshan's aides were injured in the attack, which was carried out by a magnetic bomb placed on the victim's car.

Guest, Male #3 (Hussein Ebrahimi, Deputy Head of Iran National Security Committee)
Two people on a motorcycle placed a magnetic bomb on a car and detonated it remotely. This is similar to the method adopted in previous assassination attacks on our scientists, which implicates Washington and Tel Aviv.

Reporter, Male #2
Iranian security agencies said they have foiled many assassination attempts, and in most cases have pointed the finger at Washington. However, the deputy chief of the Iranian national security committee blamed Israel for today's attack.

Guest, Male #3 (Hussein Ebrahimi, Deputy Head of Iran National Security Committee)
Our security agencies have made many achievements in the countering of bomb attacks. They have dismantled many cells. If it weren't for our security operations, the number of assassinations would be much larger than this. By the same token, our enemies are continuing to mobilize and plot.

These remarks, if proven true, put the lives of lives of Iranian scientists in danger. Today's assassination, which coincides with the anniversary of the assassination of scientist Masoud Mohammadi, is being described here as "an episode of a series of assassinations targeting nuclear scientists." Reda al-Basha, Dubai TV, Tehran.

Meanwhile, a delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency, the IAEA, is expected to visit Iran soon. An IAEA official said that a group of senior inspectors will travel to Tehran to discuss the growing concerns over the possible military aspects of the Iranian nuclear program. The official added that the agency and Iran are working on the timing of the visit, which comes amid rising tensions over the Iranian nuclear program. Meanwhile, Tehran is facing more criticism over its nuclear program. In Washington, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that Iran's decision to enrich uranium at the Fordow nuclear site is "especially troubling," and demonstrates the Iranian regime's "blatant disregard for its responsibilities." The Russian foreign ministry said Moscow regrets Tehran's decision to begin uranium enrichment activities. In Paris, French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said several oil-producing countries are ready to increase their exports if the EU decides to impose an oil embargo on Iran in its upcoming meeting on January 23.</media:text>

Prince Turki believes Iran's retaliation will be carried out throughout the world, including against many US interests.

It will only make the Iranians more determined to build a nuclear weapon and gain support for the government. It will not end the program; it will merely delay it, if anything.

This opinion was reinforced by a human chain formed by Iranian students Wednesday morning around the nuclear plant in Esfahan south of Tehran to show support for their country's nuclear program.

The International Atomic Energy Agency released a report indicating it has reliable information that Iran has built a massive container to conduct hydrogen experiments, which is believed to be a strong indicator of possibly developing the weapon. Iran criticized the report saying it is biased and politically motivated, and denied the allegations of developing nuclear weapons. The report roused speculation in media networks that the United States and Israel may take military actions against Iran to destroy its nuclear programs. However, the US president said he prefers a diplomatic solution while not excluding other options.</media:text>

<media:text>The Russian foreign minister has criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency for its latest report on Iran's nuclear energy program. Sergey Lavrov says the report contains nothing new and provides no evidence that Tehran is developing nuclear weapons. The UN nuclear watchdog last week accused Tehran of conducting nuclear weapons research. Lavrov said the report was apparently aimed at paving the way for further unilateral sanctions against Iran. </media:text>

Israel, backed by the West and outside the framework of any international accountability, continues to engage in double a standard alongside the US's stupid and blatant contradictions. On one hand, the West demands that harsh sanctions be imposed on Iran but at the same time, it encourages Israel to evade its international obligations.

From time to time, Israel, backed by the US and the West, publicly complains about the Iranian nuclear program. These countries ignore that Israel developed its own nuclear arsenal without any international monitoring. Not only does Israel's massive military arsenal threaten the region, it threatens the entire world. The Israeli occupation entity demands that deadly sanctions be imposed on Tehran, and is backed by French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe. Juppe says it has become necessary to refer the Iranian nuclear issue to the Security Council, calling for imposing harsh sanctions on Tehran in light of the International Atomic Energy Agency's report. These statements obviously reveal the double standards and selective policies adopted by Washington and its allies in relation to Israel, which has possessed nuclear reactors for over five decades. With the help of France, Israel built its nuclear reactor Dimona in 1955 and possesses nearly 200 nuclear bombs. Every single one of these bombs has a destructive power equal to that of the bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. On one hand, they pose a serious threat to the region's peace and security. On the other, they raise issues of justice, imbalance of power, and Israel's intransigence and determination to maintain its military superiority, especially its nuclear power.

The Russian foreign ministry confirmed that the International Atomic Energy Agency's report on Iran's nuclear program does not contain any new information. In a statement, the Ministry said that because there is no conclusive evidence in the report, the West is resorting to assumptions, doubts, and manipulation of information to create the impression that Iran's nuclear program holds a military component. The allegations also remind us that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction. The statement pointed to Tehran's readiness to hold direct talks with the agency and criticized the foundations that the international agency relied on to make these accusations against Iran. The statement also expressed Russia's grave concern that the report will be used on a broad scale to undermine the international community's efforts to find a political and diplomatic solution to the issue. </media:text>

Iran described the latest report by the International Atomic Energy Agency as politically motivated and unprofessional. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad said the IAEA report was filled with nothing more than allegations that will do nothing but harm the IAEA's prestige and international status. He added his country does not need to possess a nuclear bomb. For his part, member of the National Security Committee in parliament, Parviz Sorouri, said the doors to hell will be opened to Israel if Iran's nuclear plants are subject to any military strike. Our correspondent Abdul Qadir Faiz reports from the Iranian capital.

Iranians say the International Atomic Energy Agency's report is nothing new and repeats old claims that a small part of the Iranian nuclear program is posing a military threat. Tehran responded to the report by saying it was based on Western intelligence calculations instead of the international inspectors' views. Tehran says the images in the report were taken by spy satellites instead of IAEA cameras, and the report is politically motivated. The Iranians raised their tone towards the IAEA.

Guest, Male #3 (Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, Iranian President)
They accuse Iran of supporting terrorism and building a nuclear bomb. We have no need for any bomb to face the 20,000 bombs that the West has. Why all these allegations, and what is the benefit of harming the prestige of the IAEA and its international agencies? Let everyone know that Iran will never retreat one iota from its positions.

Reporter, Male #2
Despite its denial, Iran is aware that the latest report will affect the upcoming phase of its nuclear program. It also realizes that it cannot merely deny the allegations, but must quickly take high-level political and diplomatic action.

Guest, Male #4 (Fouad Ayzadi, Professor of International Relations at Tehran University)
Perhaps the relationship between Iran and the IAEA has become more difficult. I believe that Iran should review its relations with several Western countries and strengthen its ties with Russia and China. It is true that Tehran has multiple and broad options to militarily respond to a strike; and it is true that the world economy cannot handle the implications of such a strike. However, it must take this threat very seriously.

Reporter, Male #2
The threat was correlated with Report No. 35 against Iran's nuclear rights. Tehran says the significance of the report lies in the implications of its political motivation, not its technical information. It is also said this report is the IAEA's longest and most serious report since 2009. Anyone who reads it knows that it was carefully drafted for the next phase; a phase Iran said it is ready for by every standard. The Revolutionary Guard candidly said that its equation is clear: striking the Iranian nuclear sites means removing Israel from the regional map. The remark is brutal, but there is no room for politeness here. Politically, Tehran says it is very patient and very pragmatic. Militarily, it openly showcases its strength without any shyness. Abdul Qadir Faiz, al-Jazeera, Tehran.

Meanwhile, the international community responded to the the IAEA's new report on Iran's nuclear program. The European Union announced that the report aggravates international fears about the essence of this program. For his part, French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe stated that such circumstances require a discussion at the UN Security Council. He added that the international community needs to impose what he referred to as strict and unprecedented sanctions on Tehran in order to prevent it from obtaining materials that will allow it to continue its activities that violate all international laws.

<media:text>Israel is keeping mum today following the release of the UN's report on Iran's nuclear ambitions. But the details of the document have indicated Israel's longtime position on the issue. The prime minister's office said Israel is studying the International Atomic Energy Agency report on the Islamic republic's nuclear activities and will issue a response at a later date. But it is clear today that what Israel has been screaming about for years is true, which this document, being called the most damning report ever published by the IAEA, makes clear. Iran has been working toward building a nuclear weapon for years while lying about it and concealing its activities. </media:text>

Yemeni local and tribal resources told the BBC that 15 armed Houthi fighters were killed and several others were wounded in violent clashes that erupted yesterday and continued today in the Aahim region of Hajja Province in western Yemen. For weeks, dozens of Houthis have been besieging a house belonging to a Salafi group in the Dammaj region of Sa'ada Province in northern Yemen, after clashes between the two parties led to dozens of casualties on both sides. Politically, Yemeni Vice President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi returned to Sanaa after his visit to the United States. Meanwhile, media reports indicated the possibility of signing the Gulf initiative on Thursday in Riyadh with broad Arab and international attendance. The debate about the options to deal with the Iranian nuclear issue in light of the expected report by the International Atomic Energy Agency, the IAEA, has become public among the major members of the international community. Iran responded to the report with an equally sharp tone. The Iranian president even accused the IAEA and its chief of being US puppets.

Reporter, Male #2
The International Atomic Energy Agency's report on the Iranian nuclear program provoked Tehran authorities before it was even released. The timing of the report's release coincided with an intensifying international campaign against Iran that has escalated to the level of threatening to wage a war against the country. This prompted the Iranian president to accuse the IAEA and its chief of being Washington's puppets.

Guest, Male #3 (Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, Iranian President)
The International Atomic Energy Agency publishes reports imposed by US officials. I feel sorry because the chief of the agency, Yukiya Amano, violates his organization's work principles, and because he is a puppet of the US. Why doesn't Mr. Amano release reports on the arsenals in the US and its allies?

Reporter, Male #2
The report led to an eruption of reactions and indicates that there is new evidence revealing Iran's research in building a nuclear bomb. Leaked information asserted that the report will largely elaborate on Iran's program to enrich uranium, conduct experiments with high explosive materials, and make adjustments to rockets to enable them to deliver a nuclear payload. Iran responded by saying that its nuclear program is completely peaceful and aims at generating electricity so that it can export more oil and gas. However, Iran's history of concealing information and failing to halt some of its activities has caused the UN to impose four rounds of sanctions against the country. All this will make it difficult for Iran to convince the international community of its innocence. Nassir Farghali, BBC. </media:text>

<media:text>Joining me now from our Tel Aviv studio to discuss the issue of Iran is Dr. Mordechai Kedar, researcher at the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies. There is increased speculation about the possible Israeli strike on Iran ahead of this IAEA report that's due out on Thursday. In your opinion, is the threat of the military strike enough to pressure China and Russia, which have both been reticent to tack onto sanctions, will it convince those parties to agree to those sanctions? And will those sanctions even be effective?</media:text>
