Pagan Amum Okech is the current and first minister of the Ministry of Peace in South Sudan. He was sworn in on July 23, 2011.
Pagan Amum Okech was born in a small post known as Wat in row Luo Nuer area. His father was a non-commission post officer and was responsible for the Wat post. He was born on the 3rd of January 1959. His family moved to Malakal, after the demise of His grandfather Chief Okiech the people of his village asked his father to leave his police post and take over his father's role as chief of the ubuar people as this was the role of both his dad and his father's father before him. His father grew from being a clan chief to a paramount chief and president of the court.
Pagan went to school south of Malakal to an institution called Jonglei from there he moved to a school called teacher training school. He moved on to a boarding school in Kodok for junior secondary school. From there He moved on to Kosi secondary school which was at the time one of the top 10 secondary schools in Sudan. While he was there, He had a disagreement with the Muslim Brotherhood students over things he considered were oppressive to South Sudanese, he were dismissed as a result of this disagreement. He was transferred to Port Sudan Secondary school where He sat for Sudan School Certificate, it was there where he met with Nashalal Nashaluk.
