The insurgency in the North Caucasus continues despite the official end of the decade-long Second Chechen War on 15 April 2009. The violence is concentrated mostly in the North Caucasus republics of Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia and Kabardino-Balkaria, with only occasional clashes and bombings elsewhere, but there are also concerns it may compromise safety of the planned 2014 Winter Olympics.
